Iran boosting drone power proportionate to potential threats

TEHRAN, Jan. 07 (MNA) – A senior Iranian commander says the Islamic Republic is boosting its drone capabilities to be able to respond to potential threats in kind.

"Iran's drone power is increasing proportionately to potential threats and we are witnessing national technological leaps in other industries, including metallurgy, fiberglass, and composites, thanks to this great achievement,” Commander of the Iranian Army’s Air Defense Force Brigadier General Alireza Sabahi-Fard said on Saturday.

Speaking at a meeting to a number of commanders and staff of the drone unit of the Iranian Army's Air Defense Force, Sabahi-Fard said the country's indigenous drones have taken the edge off the aerial superiority of some foreign countries.

The commander said the development of drones plays a leading role in increasing the combat and operational power of air defense. He reiterated that the Iranian Army’s Air Defense Force is making serious efforts in this regard.

Back in December, dozens of home-grown Karrar drones, equipped with air-to-air Majid missiles, joined Iran Army's Air Defense Force.

The Karrar drones armed with Majid missiles are capable of intercepting and engaging any flying objects and hostile targets. They successfully performed operations during a large-scale drone drill by the Islamic Republic of Iran Army in October.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Sabahi-Fard described the Iranian nation's support for the country at different juncture as the most important component of power which has foiled the enemies' vicious plans to harm national power.

Referring to a twin terrorist attack in the southeastern Iranian city of Kerman on January 3, where at least 90 people were killed, the commander said resorting to terrorism shows the extent of humiliation enemies suffer.
