Iran Army pledges support for Police after Rask terror attack

TEHRAN, Dec. 16 (MNA) – The commander of the Iranian Army voiced backing for the Police, which lost a number of its forces in a terrorist attack in southeast Iran, expressing confidence that the perpetrators of the attack will be brought to justice.

Army Commander Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi on Saturday sent a message to Commander of the Law Enforcement Command of the Islamic Republic of Iran Brigadier General Ahmadreza Radan in the wake of the terrorist attack that resulted in the martyrdom of 11 Police forces in Rask in the southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan.

Condemning the “blind terror attack” by the enemies of Iran with the purpose of undermining Muslim unity in the country, the Army chief said his forces would provide full support for the Police.

Major General Mousavi also expressed confidence that the efforts by the intelligence, security, judicial, and law enforcement forces will result in the identification and arrest of the criminals behind the terrorist attack and those upsetting security in Iran.

The attack, which occurred around midnight, was one of the deadliest in years for the region sitting close to Iran's border with Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Similar attacks have occurred previously, including on July 23 when four policemen were killed while on patrol.

That came two weeks after two policemen and four assailants were killed in a shootout in the province, claimed by Jaish ul-Adl.
