Iraqi president, Iranian envoy discuss developing cooperation

TEHRAN, Oct. 11 (MNA) – Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid and Iran's ambassador to Baghdad Mohammad Kazem Al-e Sadegh held a meeting to discuss strengthening the cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad.

The two sides also conferred on the bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as the regional developments.

In the meeting, the Iraqi president stressed the need for Tehran and Baghdad to cooperate on issues of mutual concern in order to achieve peace, stability, and security in the region.

Referring to the recent security agreement reached between Iran and Iraq, Rashid stated that the deal represents Iraq's position in rejecting the use of the country's territory as a platform to invade neighboring countries.

He also emphasized Iraq's right to maintain its security and sovereignty against aggression against the Iraqi cities, especially the cities in the Kurdistan Region.

The Iranian envoy, for his part, emphasized that Tehran is interested in strengthening cooperation with Baghdad in various fields.

He added that the Islamic Republic of Iran supports the security and stability of Iraq.
