Rahmani Fazli signed into law the Tehran City Council’s choice for the next mayor of Tehran, Priouz Hanachi.
Members of Tehran City Council elected Pirouz Hanachi as the new mayor on November 13, following Mohammad Ali Afshani's forced resignation due to a newly adopted law banning the retired to be re-employed.
The Interior Ministry's Spokesman Seyed Salman Samani told reporters on Wednesday that Mr. Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli gave his consent to Tehran City Council’s pick after observing legal procedures on Wednesday.
The minister's expectations of the new mayor were accurate financial discipline, the establishment of a healthy urban environment, timely and expert-backed decision-making, and the use of qualified and competent personnel in the municipality, according to Samani.
According to Iran’s laws, after the appointment of a mayor by City Council members, the Interior Ministry needs to approve their choice.
Hanachi had been the secretary of the High Council for urban development and architecture, as well as the deputy mayor for urban development and architecture during President Rouhani’s first term in office.
Hanachi holds a Ph.D in urban restoration and revitalization of historical cities from the University of Tehran.
