EU hopes to develop trade ties with Iran

TEHRAN, Nov. 19 (MNA) – Director General of European Commission for Agriculture International Relations John Clarke said that European Union (EU) hopes to enhance and develop business relationship with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

If Iranian producers observe necessary standards, European Union will enhance and broaden its trade ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran in the fields of food and agricultural products.

Speaking on Mon. in a joint conference themed ‘Development of Agricultural Cooperation, Standards, Food and Agriculture Trade’, held between Islamic Republic of Iran and European Union (EU), he said, “if Iran meets the criteria, we are ready to import agricultural produce from Iran especially trout, raisins, muttons, etc.”

Both Iran and EU face a common challenge in the sector of climatic change and also aging users of agricultural sector, he maintained.

He reiterated that Iran and European Union have a rich history in agricultural sector, adding, “given the current climatic condition, we need to help each other in relevant issues.”

Mutual acquaintance with the standards, qualitative and safety criteria of food and agricultural products, raising awareness of participants with the mechanisms of producing agricultural and food products and consulting with regard to the removal of barriers facing bilateral trade between Iran and European Union have been cited as the main objectives behind organizing this two-day conference, the director general reiterated.

Development of Agricultural Cooperation, Standards, Food and Agriculture Trade Conference kicked off in Tehran today on Nov. 19 and will end tomorrow.
