Conference on World Mosque Commemoration Week Begins in Tehran

TEHRAN (Mehr News Agency) -- The First Conference on World Mosque Commemoration Week kicked off on Thursday at International Conference Hall of Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) in Tehran.

Zionist regime set fire Masjid al-Aqsa on August 21, 1969 and Islamic Conference Organization (OIC) has called August 21 as the World Mosque Day.

"Holy Prophet of Islam Mohammad (S) established Qoba Mosque in his first step after victory over infidels. There is no doubt about holiness and grandeur of the mosques," said the Head of Center for Mosques Affairs, Ayatollah Hossein Ebrahimi on the opening ceremony of the conference.

Emphasizing on educational role of mosque for the Muslims, he said, "Our Imams began their religious teachings in mosques; this recalls the importance of mosques for us."

Referring to the mosque’s role in the mobilization of Iranian people during the course of the Islamic Revolution and 8-year sacred defense, he hoped that the Muslims refer to mosques more than before.
