Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met with the new secretary general of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation Jaafar Ku Shaari today afternoon.
In the meeting, zarif hailed the D-8 countries’ potentials to develop cooperation and expressed Iran’s readiness to develop cooperation with the private sectors of its member countries and to exchange experiences in the field of science and technology.
The transfer of technology, cooperation in the field of research and development, financing economic projects, bartering, cooperation in the manufacture and export of medicine were among the other issues discussed in this meeting.
The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, also known as Developing-8, is an organization for development co-operation among the following countries: Bangladesh, Egypt, Nigeria, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan, and Turkey. The objectives of D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation are to improve member states' position in the global economy, diversify and create new opportunities in trade relations, enhance participation in decision-making at international level, and improve standards of living. D-8 is a global arrangement rather than a regional one, as the composition of its members reflects.
