Velayati reiterates call on Europe to fulfill JCPOA commitments

TEHRAN, Jun. 27 (MNA) – A senior adviser to Iran’s Leader has said that the European countries, including France, are expected to play a more effective role in the implementation of the Iran nuclear deal.

Ali Akbar Velayati made the remarks in a meeting with Thomas Gomart, the head of the Institute Francais des relations internationales, on Tuesday, in which the two sides exchanged their views on the bilateral ties as well as regional and international issues.

Explaining Iran’s regional policies in the West Asia region, especially Syria, Yemen and Iraq, Velayati said that the situation and issues in the West Asia and North Africa region have become very complicated over the seven past years, adding the Syrian people have been able to defeat western-backed terrorists and have regained major parts of their lands from them.

He said that Iran went to help the Syrians upon the request of its government and will continue its support.

With regard to Iran nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the top aide to Iran’s Leader said “we hope that after the illegal action of the United States in withdrawing from the international agreement, western countries along with Russia and China act in accordance with their commitments and maintain their economic, trade, political relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Thomas Gomart, for his part, explained France’s approach to regional crises and Iran nuclear deal, saying that France is pursuing an independent foreign policy and emphasized multi-lateralism, adding it tries to preserve the JCPOA and maintain its economic relations between the two countries along with other European countries.
