Cultural values essential for fighting extremism

TEHRAN, Dec. 03 (MNA) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani who had received a delegation from China’s National People’s Congress said “it is essential to take cultural roots and values into account in fighting extremism.”

Ali Larijani sat with the Vice Chairperson of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Chen Yuan and his accompanying delegation and said “Iran and China have a long history of cooperation and they maintained ties even during the sanctions, and now conditions are more favorable for expanding bilateral relations.”

Highlighting the cultural background of the terrorist groups, he added “in order to oppose such extremist ideological trends, we need to take into account their cultural roots and values to fight them; otherwise they will spring up from other spots.”

Iranian Parliament Speaker went on to add that “with respect to cooperation between the two countries, it is essential to enhance cooperation in the field of railway and road transportation, and in line with the statements of the Chinese president, to focus on expanding the Silk Road and the east-west railway connection in order to increase business deals.”

“Oil, gas and petro-chemicals, pure energy and the environment are some of the areas where investments can be made,” he added.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani called parliamentary relations between the two countries fulfilling and asserted “we have arrived at the consensus in Iran that we must engage in continuous cooperation with China.”

For his part, the Vice Chairperson of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Chen Yuan said “Iran and China have long been on friendly terms and we really respect Iranian culture and history.”

Offering Chinese people' respects to Iran, he expressed hope that the two countries can enhance bilateral cooperation in economy, business, investment and culture, adding “China has entered a new era of socialism. It has turned into a powerful, civilized and harmonious socialist country where people are trying to build a better future and improve China.”

Having introduced the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference as one of the most high-ranking offices in China that is concerned with prioritized policies, Chen Yuan said “we are interested in negotiating with the officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran in terms of matters concerning the two countries.”

“Arak heavy water reactor working group is led by the US and China. The US however, changed its approach toward the nuclear deals. China is totally against this change of approach and we will are determined to continue this project in collaboration with other countries,” he added.

Pointing out the wrong policies adopted by the US, Chen Yuan asserted “the US has caused problems for Iran, China and several other countries for which we need to seek a tactful solution. The US is after tipping the newly found Asia Pacific balance in favor of its own military power so that all the world are subjected to its powers, which is impossible.”

“We fight terrorism as much as we can, and we are ready to engage in international cooperation in this respect and uproot the extremist groups, since they risk countries’ peace and security,” he added.

“We are glad that the terrorists were defeated in Iraq and Syria, and now is the time for the US to realize that instability in various regions is to its own disadvantage too,” said Chen Yuan.

The Vice Chairperson of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference underlined that as an observer in Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Iran has played a positive role in this organization and concluded with stressing the necessity of increasing parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
