'Regional security in West Asia' conf. kicks off in Tehran

TEHRAN, Dec. 03 (MNA) – ‘Regional Security in the West Asia; Emerging Challenges and Trends’ within the framework of Tehran Security Conference 2018 has kicked off on Sun. at Iran’s Strategic Council for Foreign Relations.

The seminar entitled ‘Regional Security in the West Asia; Emerging Challenges and Trends’ is part of a series of conferences that went underway on Nov. 15 (entitled 'Arms Trends and Regional Security in the West Asia'), and will continue through Dec. 19 in the form of six other conferences within the framework of Tehran Security Conference 2018.

The mission of Tehran Security Conference is to promote dialogue as well as mutual confidence and cooperation among West Asia countries in order to achieve collective security and progress.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has always defined its own security within the framework of security of the entire region and Islamic countries, hence this conference, through cooperation of more than 15 strategic research centers and institutes and with cooperation of a wide spectrum of academic and research elites from Iran and other countries, seeks to promote a “correct understanding of the strategic model of regional developments and its futurological outlook,” and “production of an indigenized and common discourse among elites to pave the way for their participation in the process of decision-making and consensus building.”

Tehran Security Conference, as a whole, focuses on a wide range of topics including terrorism and extremism, environment, economic and developmental trends, cyber security (cyberspace), rivalries among big powers and interventionism, the resistance axis, democracy, emerging identities and intra-state conflicts, arms races and regional security.

The next seminar entitled ‘Governance and Regional Security in the West Asia’ will be held on Dec. 10 at Center for Strategic Studies.
