Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri made the remarks on Saturday morning on the sidelines of an exhibition showcasing latest achievements and capabilities of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base.
Maj. Gen. Bagheri told reporters that, given the changes in types of threats against the Islamic Republic of Iran and the fact that air and missiles attacks are still likely options, air defense has been the top priority of the country’s armed forces for the past few years.
As such, various designs and plans have been made in the field of research and development of up-to-date systems capable of dealing with all types of threats, noted the official adding “these measures have been taken to identify unwanted surprise attacks and prevent possible hazards.
Iran’s Army Chief went on to underline that the issue of air defense has gained a substantial position in the structure of armed forces as observed by allocation of funds and holding of training courses for human resources; “today, commanders in the armed forces pay due attention to the priority and Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base has taken up the responsibility of empowering the country’s air defense in a bid to unify all forces including the army and IRGC.
“Fortunately, good research has been done and Iran is not lagging behind, given that Air Defense Base has spared no effort to provide Iran with the safest air space in the turbulent region of in Southwest Asia.”
Maj. Gen. Bagheri later commented that, for the same reason, many passing airplanes have decided to use Iran’s sky as part of their route, which is a great honor for the country.
