Hoda Hadadi wins 2017 Literary Classics gold medal

TEHRAN, Jul. 05 (MNA) – Iranian illustrator Hoda Hadadi has won the gold medal at the 2017 International Literary Classics Book Award.

The gold medal has been awarded to her for her illustrations for ‘Drummer Girl’. The book written by Pakistani-Canadian author Hiba Masoud also managed to win the Best cultural book award.

Based on a true story, ‘Drummer Girl’ depicts the life of a girl living in Istanbul during the month of Ramadan, who wakes up the fasting people for the pre-dawn meal. She is the first drummer girl in Istanbul and praised by everyone. 

The Award's review of the book notes, "Drummer Girl, by Hiba Masood, is a story that will inspire young girls to reach for their dreams regardless of what others might say or think. This lovely picture book, illustrated by Hoda Hadadi, depicts the many sights, scents and sounds of this very special time of year. Young readers will delight in the rich traditions of Ramadan as seen through the eyes of Najma, a child who wishes to become a drummer girl." 

This book is recommended for home and school libraries and has earned the Literary Classics Seal of Approval, the website adds.

Literary Classics is an organization dedicated to promoting excellence in literature through awards, book reviews, and seal of approval program.
