Iranian airliners to fly to Iraq soon

TEHRAN, Aug. 24 (MNA) — Iranian and Iraqi officials on Tuesday stressed the necessity of establishing air transportation systems between the two countries.

“An Iraqi delegation from the country’s aviation organization conferred with the head of Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) Nurollah Niaraki yesterday and both sides stressed setting up regular transportation systems between the two countries,” noted Reza Jafarzadeh, an official in ICAO.

ICAO’s director also emphasized the need for Iraqi government to formulate a precisely defined air boundary over its air territory, he added.

The two sides also referred to the numerous holy and religious sites in both countries as the main reason for establishing the air transportation between Iran and Iraq, the official maintained.

During the visit, the head of CAO also called for the speedy installation of air traffic control systems as well as navigation equipments and systems by Iraqi government to ensure optimum safety of the flights between the two countries.

Iranian and Iraqi ministers of roads and transportation had earlier signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish regular flights between the two countries.
