First ATRs land in Tehran

TEHRAN, May 17 (MNA) – The four out of twenty purchased ATR 72-600 airplanes have just landed at Mehrabad Airport in Tehran on Wednesday.

The ATR 72-600 turboprops with registration numbers EP-ITA, EP-ITB, EP-ITC, and EP-ITC which was scheduled for landing at Mehrabad Airport late April, finally arrived in Tehran today May 17, 2017.

The aircraft was delivered to Iran in the presence of Iran Air (HOMA) CEO Farhad Parvaresh in French city of Toulouse. The ATR 72-600 has a range of 1,500km and 70 seats.

All four airplanes purchased from the French-Italian aircraft manufacturer ATR have successfully passed primary tests and conducted pilot takeoffs and landings at Toulouse–Blagnac Airport in France for a month.

“We are proud and gratified that our ATR aircraft are providing the solution to Iran’s significant needs in regional connectivity,” said Christian Scherer, CEO of ATR, adding “As Iran’s traveling public gains access to increased supply of air transportation, it will benefit from the highest standards of comfort, efficiency, and reliability with the ATR’s we are delivering today and over the coming months.”

Last April, the French-Italian ATR plane manufacturer signed a deal with HOMA to provide it with 20 planes. This is a third plane manufacturer after Airbus and Boeing had successfully signed lucrative deals with Iran. Iran Air will continue taking delivery of ATR aircraft until the end of 2018 and plans to receive five more Airbus A320 series aircaft by the end of 2017.
