Security coop. strengthens Iran, Afghanistan’s stability

TEHRAN, Apr. 23 (MNA) – SNSC head Ali Shamkhani while slamming Taliban’s deadly attack at Afghan military base, said intelligence and security cooperation between Iran and Afghanistan will strengthen stability of both countries.

During a telephone conversation Saturday night with his Afghan counterpart Mohammad Hanif Atmar, the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani extended his deepest condolences and sympathy to the nation and government of Afghanistan over Taliban’s deadly attack at Afghan military base which left at least 140 soldiers killed and another 160 wounded.

Shamkhani also expressed Iran’s readiness to extend any help to the wounded of the terrorist attack.

While calling for a harsh and uniformed response from Afghan government, political parties and the people against terrorist groups, Shamkhani maintained that expediting intelligence and security cooperation between Iran and Afghanistan, which has been pursued vehemently by security organizations of both countries in the past, will bring about further security and stability for both nations.

The assault on Friday is the deadliest attack of its kind on an Afghan military base. President Ashraf Ghani declared a national day of mourning on Saturday after death toll jumped to 140 and another 160 people were wounded by Taliban fighters disguised as fellow troops on an army base in the northern Balkh province.
