Iran backs dialog between Venezuelan govt., opposition

TEHRAN, Apr. 12 (MNA) – Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi says that Iran supports continuation of negotiations between the Venezuelan government and the opposition to settle the dispute there.

"Iran is against any kind of foreign intervention in the internal affairs of Venezuela," Ghasemi stressed in reaction to the recent anti-government demonstrations in the Latin American country, inviting sides to respect the country’s independence and sovereignty.

“Iran attaches great importance to the security and stability in the Latin American region, particularly the friendly country of Venezuela,” he added.

The top Iranian diplomat went on to say that continuation of unrest in Venezuela would be of benefit to no sides, and can put increasing pressure on the Venezuelan people.

The Islamic Republic of Iran’s principled policy is support for Venezuela’s legitimate government reliant on the people's votes, Ghasemi concluded.
