Natural resources should be protected from ‘unregulated use’

TEHRAN, Mar. 08 (MNA) – Leader of the Islamic Revolution has said country’s dried regions suffered from lack of plant coverage.

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei who was briefly speaking after planting two saplings to mark the National Arbor’s Day and Natural Resources Week on Wednesday, urged that the forests and other natural resources should be protected from unregulated and illicit hands which had sought their private interests without observing the nation’s collective right on the natural resources; “Iran’s valuable forest area is an asset for the country and provides vital support against desertification, a phenomenon already affecting the central and eastern parts of Iran amid the severe droughts,” he emphasized.

Ayatollah Khamenei denounced the status quo in making profit of the natural resources by specific circles and businessmen; “the national wealth should be protected against such encroachments by a number of irresponsible group of businessmen; equally harmful to the natural resources is disproportionately high amount of imports of foreign fruits and vegetables, which the officials should address seriously to save domestic agriculture,” he demanded.
