“The government and nation of Iran have had very bitter experiences of Americans’ sporadic verbal interventions of irrelevant nature in their country’s domestic affairs,” said Ghasemi on Wednesday after the US Department of State issued a statement in support of the political figures detained after the Iranian 2009 presidential election and the following unrest in Tehran.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran, along with being loyal to its international commitments, is always prioritizing the full implementation of the articles of the Constitution which address citizens’ rights. “Issuing such statements is undoubtedly hypocritical, suspicious, irrelevant, and politically motivated and the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns such statements.”
US Deputy Department Spokesperson, Mark C. Toner, issued a statement on Tuesday which marked “the six-year anniversary of the detention without formal charges of former senior Iranian officials.”
