Tehran, Stockholm to bring more dynamism to ties

TEHRAN, Feb. 11 (MNA) – Iranian president and Swedish PM underlined will of Tehran and Stockholm to strengthen ties in bilateral, regional and international levels.

Speaking during Iran-Sweden high-level meeting on Saturday, Rouhani said Tehran and Stockholm enjoy long-standing positive relations; "the visit is taking place in the absence of sanctions after th e implementation of nuclear agreement and conditions are ripe for the development of economic relations between the two countries; with no doubt, this trip could be a turning point in relations between the two countries."

President Rouhani pointed out that there is a great capacity for expansion of ties between Iran and Sweden; "based on Sweden's experience in the field of nuclear power plant security and plant safety equipment as well as waste management, the field can be one of the areas of cooperation between the two countries."

Rouhani called cooperation in various fields including medicine and medical equipment, industry and new technologies, transportation, environment, renewable energy, mining and information technology as areas of cooperation between the two countries, and said Iran and Sweden could share experiences in all fiels of bilateral relations; Iran is ready to become a regional hub in the field of industry and different technologies; we can produce joint products with joint ventures and offer them to the region and the world.

Iranian president also stressed the need for strengthening banking and financial cooperation, saying activating all potentials for cooperation, we need to develop and facilitate more banking relationships.

The main goal of the Islamic Republic of Iran on regional issues is to create stability and security throughout the region. "We attach great importance to the security of our neighbors and respond positively to all the countries calling for the help in the fight against terrorism."

The president also said the Zionist regime's behavior is highly provocative in the region, adding the Palestinian issue must be understood as a great responsibility to prevent the Zionist regime as one of the root causes of insecurity and tension in the region.

Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven, for his part, said his delegation has come to Iran to hold deep and comprehensive dialogue to strengthen bilateral relations and promote stability.

"I brought the Swedish political and economic delegation to Tehran because we are willing to increase the level of trade ties with Tehran to the same level before sanctions," he noted.

Löfven also stressed the need for commitment of both sides to JCPOA, saying Sweden's priority is the full implementation of the nuclear agreement. "We support all sides' commitment to the obligations and EU Chief Mogherini's yesterday visit to the US was to deliver the message to the American side."

Swedish premier then referred to the regional issues and said Stockholm welcomes Iran-Turkey-Russia initiative for establishing ceasefire in Syria believing that all countries should support the process.

Löfven, expressing satisfaction with President Rouhani's position on counter-terrorism, said "we have seen the consequences of terrorism in the region and will continue efforts to combat and eradicate the issue."

"Iran is a major actor in the region and I hope it continues its role in maintaining security and stability in the region," he concluded.
