Iranian, Turkish FMs on phone for 6th time

TEHRAN, Dec. 16 (MNA) – Foreign ministers of Iran and Turkey made their sixth phone call in the last two days on Thursday evening to discuss latest developments in Aleppo.

Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, in their latest out of several telephone conversations in recent days, mulled over safe exit of civilians from Aleppo as well as the ceasefire which came into force on Wednesday evening.

As quoted by the official website of Akşam newspaper, Turkey’s Çavuşoğlu, during the talk with his Iranian counterpart, emphasized that maintaining the ceasefire in Aleppo, which was established by efforts of Ankara, held great significance.

Accordingly, he underlined that observance of the ceasefire and safe evacuation of civilians could mark a model for a nationwide ceasefire in Syria as well as that it could pave the path for a political solution in the long run.
