TEHRAN, Oct. 30 (MNA) – Concurrent with celebrating the 400th death anniversary of William Shakespeare, the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) will also pay respect to Polish director Andrej Wazda and Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami.

According to the festival’s website, at least three important Shakespeare adaptations will be screened at KIFF, including Orson Welles' 1951 film based on 'Othello', Roman Polanski's adaptation of 'Macbeth', and Grigori Kozintsev's 'Hamlet'.

In line with the festival’s trend to pay tribute to the cinema of great masters that are no longer in existence, the KIFF will honor Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami who passed away this July and Polish director Andrej Wazda who passed away on October 9.

KIFF will host a screening of Kiarostami’s much-acclaimed 1999 production ‘The Wind Will Carry Us’. The film was nominated for the Golden Lion of the Venice Film Festival, and won the Grand Special Jury Prize (Silver Lion), the FIPRESCI Prize, and the CinemAvvenire award at the festival.

KIFF will screen Andrej Wazda’s 1958 film titled 'Ashes Diamonds'.

The Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) will be held on 11-18 November, 2016, in India.
