US responsible for failed Syria ceasefire: Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW, Oct. 05 (MNA) – The United States has completely failed in implementing the new Syrian ceasefire deal with Russia and separating terrorists from moderate opposition, the Russian Defense Ministry said Tuesday.

"It is the United States that failed miserably in implementing all the agreements of the September 9 ceasefire, being unable to separate a single of the to-called opposition groups from the Nusra Front [also known as Jabhat Fatah al-Sham] and allowing terrorists to carry out another regrouping and resupply," spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said in a statement.

On Monday, the United States announced its decision to suspend bilateral dialogue with Russia resolving the Syrian conflict after the September 9 Russia-US ceasefire deal collapsed within a week and the Syrian army began to advance in Aleppo, responding to militants' ceasefire violations. Later in the day, White House spokesperson Josh Earnest said that Russia has not been successful in fighting Daesh.

"We would like to return Mr. Earnest back to Earth and remind him that it is due to the United States' feverish imitation of fighting against the IS while the terrorist group at first took over the north of Iraq before nearly engulfing entire Syria as the whole world watched," Konashenkov added, stressing that the United States has failed to explain its continued ambivalent attitude to the Nusra Front throughout its existence in the course of the war in Syria.

The latest nationwide ceasefire in Syria was agreed by the United States and Russia on September 9. It went into force at the sundown of September 12, but fell apart after repeated violations.
