“Capitalizing on post-JCPOA atmosphere and the potentials of the two countries, we should broaden bilateral cooperation in all areas especially in economy,” said President Hassan Rouhani of Iran in the joint meeting of the senior officials of Iran and Cuba late on Monday.
Referring to the success in nuclear talks of Iran and 5+1, Rouhani underlined that the goal of some powerful countries posing pressure and restriction on independent countries, is to keep the monopoly of modern and special technologies for themselves.
“Thanks to the resistance of Iranian nation, we are delighted that the way to achieve modern technologies is opened for developing countries hence not being left exclusively in the hand of the developed countries,” asserted the Iranian president, stressing on the necessity of science and technology cooperation between independent countries, “Iran and Cuba should expand their technology cooperation especially in areas of nano-technology and bio-technology, to improve the status of independent versus imperialistic countries.”
He also called for more active role of the joint economy commission of Iran and Cuba to follow up the realization of the agreements made and those which have deepen the economic ties between the two countries.
“Cuba has always been backing Iran at international venues and communities,” said President Rouhani with stress on reciprocal support of independent countries in the face of difficulties, “the close ties of Iran and Cuba which have benefited both nations so far, should be continued on international and regional issues.”
Pointing to the common positions of Iran and Cuba on international and regional issues, Rouhani asserted that some powerful countries fuel the fire of regional disagreements to secure more selling of their arms; an action that has damaged the global economy.
Rouhani started his speech at the joint meeting with hailing the resistance undertaken by the people of Cuba against colonizers and imperialists and reminded the other side that the people of Iran went through the same predicaments while Western and Eastern Blocs of the world were supporting the regime of Saddam in the eight year war of Saddam against Iran (1980-88) and they continued the pressure even after the war with posing sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
Raúl Castro, the President of Cuba, for his part, voiced his content with President Rouhani’s visit to Havana and said that “nobody would take the honor of perseverant partnership of Cuba with Iran from Cubans, and nobody can stop the expansion of bilateral ties between Iran and Cuba.”
“The spread of war in the world has become a lucrative business for some powerful states and war has occupied the minds of some powers," he added.
The Cuban president also stressed on the expansion of bilateral ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran on all areas.
