NAM summit wraps up in Venezuela

TEHRAN, Sep. 19 (MNA) – The closing ceremony for the 17th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit was held in Venezuela with attendance of Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani.

The 17th edition of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit came to an end on Saturday evening in Venezuela after issuing a statement.

The final statement of NAM summit deeply appreciated the President of Iran Hassan Rouhani in recognition of his invaluable contribution to the process of strengthening and revitalizing of the Non-Aligned Movement.

During the closing meeting, following adoption of the final documents, representatives of regional groups in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe presented their respective statements.

Later, the NAM Chairmanship for the years 2019-22 was handed over to Azerbaijan and it was decided that the 18th summit will be held in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku in 2019.

Accordingly, Iran, Venezuela and Azerbaijan Republic became members of the Non-Aligned Movement troika.

The seventeenth summit of heads and states and governments of Non-Aligned Movement convened on September 17 and 18 in Margarita Island of Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela with the theme of ‘peace, sovereignty and solidarity for development’.

Participants at the two-day meeting touched upon and discussed the most important issues currently at stake in the international arena.
