Ali Shamkhani and Mr. Salim al-Jubouri, Speaker of Iraqi Parliament, met on Sunday to discuss bilateral ties and developments in Iraqi fight against ISIL. Shamkhani told the meeting that all ethnic and political groups should contribute to efforts to curb ISIL and to bring stability to the country; “the Iraqi army, public mobilization forces and other contingents along with public support to the battle against terrorism had created priorities for Iraq as complete extirpation of terrorism,” Mr. Shamkhani said, ensuring Iran’s support under any circumstances to Iraqi government and people in their struggle with 'forces of darkness.'
“Liberation of Mosul is highly expected to ensue with all groups under the umbrella of unity in the name of Iraq and national interests; the achievement is indicative of the capabilities and feat Iraqi government showed and other reactionary states of the Persian Gulf badly suffered the lack of,” said the secretary of SNSC. “Iraq is a unit geographical entity and a variegated patch of different ethnic and religious groups, and I believe they will defeat ISIL to embrace stability and solidarity.”
“Despite the general view that ISIL is popular among Sunni groups, the cruel creature has wrought havoc upon all Sunni communities with severe political, economic, and social damage on the infrastructures; the damage was far less severe where Iraqi army and public mobilization forces fought than when the so-called US-led coalition fought and targeted ISIL,” he emphasized.
Shamkhani believed that Sunni participation in Iraqi political life was inevitable and commitment to democracy would be a sole criterion for every ethnic and political group to join the bandwagon of politics in unity.
Mr. al-Jubouri for his part, expressed gratitude for the support lavished by the Islamic Republic of Iran on Iraqi military and other groups fighting ISIL; “Iran has been very effective country in success of Iraqi government; I am in unanimity with you that unity and solidarity would help defeat of ISIL to bring to the country peace and stability,” he told Shamkhani. “Iraqi officials have been regularly cooperating with Iran and have received advice in handling the situation, and boosting economic ties with Iran is a priority for all especially Iraq’s Parliament,” he concluded.
