Iran lacks enough intl. aid for refugees

TEHRAN, Jun. 18 (MNA) – Iran's foreign minister criticized the minimal international assistance to refugees in Iran, adding Iran has always tried to provide good facilities for the refugees.

Mohammad Javad Zarif made the remarks in a meeting with visiting United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi on Saturday.

Pointing to the large number of legal and illegal refugees in the country , Zarif said Islamic Republic of Iran has always tried to provide proper facilities for refugees and in this regard it has spent much on the education of refugees.

He noted that Iran has been hosting refugees for more than three decades trying to do its best in the field of health and education, however, he expressed regret, it has received very low amount of international aid.

Grandi, for his part, thanked Iran for its hospitality regarding refugees, and said Iran is among countries where has spent a lot for education and health of refugees.

Pointing to his previous trip to Iran, UNHCR chief said “I got surprised by the amount of measures taken to improve the living conditions of refugees in the Islamic Republic of Iran; now I'm seeing an increase in refugees’ facilities.”

He also expressed hope over an increase in international assistance to refugees in Iran in the near future.
