'Iran’s duty to back Syria in fighting terrorism'

TEHRAN, Jun. 10 (MNA) – Iran’s Defense Min. Dehghan in a trilateral meeting on defense cooperation with Syria and Russia said Iran deems it its duty to back Syria in fighting terrorism as requested by the Syrian government.

Brig. Gen. Hossein Dehghan made the remark in a meeting with his Syrian counterpart Fahd Jassem al-Freij on the sidelines of Iran-Russia-Syria trilateral meeting on fighting terrorism on Thursday, adding “decisive action against terrorism and establishing peace and stability in the region and the world are among Iran’s stated policies.”

Dehghan went on to highlight the Islamic Republic’s firm determination in fighting terrorism and supporting victim countries by providing all-out assistance, including military advice and humanitarian aid to Syrian people, as well as providing the proper condition for the return of the war refugees, in a bid to restore peace and security to the region.

The defense minister further deemed Iran and Syria’s joint action in fighting terrorism an instance of the ‘battle of right against wrong.’

Syrian Defense Minister Fahd Jassem al-Freij, for his part, expressed his country’s gratitude for Iran’s support in fighting terrorism, saying “the sacrifices of Iranian martyrs together with Syrian martyrs will undoubtedly defeat terrorism and bring about triumph for the Axis of Resistance.”

Noting the support of the US, Turkey and certain Persian Gulf states for terrorism, he added “those who claim solidarity with the Syrian nation are in fact committing the worst kinds of crimes against Syrians by their overt and covert support for Takfiri terrorist groups.”

“The leadership, nation and armed forces of Syria are resolute to rid Syria of the terrorists and their supporters through the help from friendly countries,” he added.

Al-Freij also hailed Iran for its initiative for holding the trilateral meeting, expressing hope that the coordination resulted from such meetings would bring about the further strengthening of the Axis of Resistance in fighting Takfiri terrorists.
