Upon his arrival at New York on Monday, Mohammad Javad Zarif told reporters that he is scheduled to attend the UN conference on Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement signing ceremony, as well as holding bilateral meetings with high ranking officials on the sidelines of the summits.
Zarif said, Iran's commitments announced by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will be signed with government approval.
He also recognized the meeting dubbed "High Level Thematic Debate on Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals" focusing on the plans of countries and their expectations of the international community.
Iranian Foreign Minister continued, the trip is a good opportunity to prevent the implementation of the plots of Iran’s enemies during the post-JCPOA era with the aim of creating an atmosphere of Iranophobia through interviews and meetings with intellectual and academic communities of the US.
Zarif said he will meet with US Secretary of State John Kerry in New York on April 19 to emphasize the need for pursuing serious implementation of JCPOA by the US government to fulfil its part of the nuclear deal, in which Iran curbed its nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief.
Zarif underlined that there is no prohibition on behalf of Iran to hold healthy economic ties with the US.
Zarif added that Mr. Seif, Head of Iran Central Bank, and other Iranian officials seek to prevent US intervention in banning banking and financial institutions of other countries to communicate with Iran. Seif had accused the US and the European Union of failing to honor the nuclear agreement by keeping Iran locked out of the international financial system.
