Defense ministry public relations office informed Mehr News on Wednesday that Brig. Gen. Hossein Dehghan had opened the factory to produce a powerful explosive, octogen. The explosive reportedly has wide applications in ballistic missile industry, cruise missiles, air defense, anti-armor arsenal and maritime weapons, improving weapons efficiency and efficacy.
Dehghan also addressed the opening ceremony briefly; “the Defense Ministry has always been working to improve and bolster the precision, power, and effectiveness of its different classes of warheads; the Ministry is a sort of pioneer in producing explosives. Octogen is highly stable, is manufactured in lower costs, and easily incorporated into the inventory of arsenal, which makes the assembly line economically justified,” Dehghan detailed.
Defense minister believed the factory to manufacture octogen was a giant leap forward in path to improve indigenous technology of explosives; “acquiring explosive technology requires higher costs and foreign countries would never allow us to procure the technology so sensitive and strategic. Now, however, we are in a place to have a claim in the technology,” he asserted. “The factory would symbolize national self-confidence, self-sufficiency and a defeat of sanctions on most advanced defense technologies and would take the enemies by surprise in cutting our dependence on foreign technology.”
Dehghan concluded his speech with extending his accolade to Defense Industries Organization engineers and staff and the Iranian nation at large; “the feat is considered an important action in road to Resistance Economy and giving armed forces added edge in terms of deterrence,” he added.
