Iran would prevent Saudi impact on Syrian crisis

TEHRAN, Jan. 10 (MNA) – Iran’s Javad Zarif has said Iran would effectively avoid a Saudi impact to deteriorate conditions in Syria.

Mohammad Javad Zarif and Mr. Staffan de Mistura, the United Nations and Arab League Envoy to Syria met in Tehran on Sunday to discuss the latest developments in Syria and possible Saudi Arabian impact on the process of solving Syrian crisis. Mr. Zarif believed Saudi Arabia was the major contributor to the current crisis in its relations with Iran, and which waged efforts to wield negative impact on the situation in Syria as well; “their strikes on Iranian embassy in Sanaa was a pretext to deflect the public attentions from their false approach to the issues in the region,” Zarif added, “while the Islamic Republic of Iran has acted responsibly in protecting foreign embassies.”

“Iran’s role in regional crises has always been constructive; in line with this, we will not let a negative impact on Syrian crisis by Saudi Arabian antics, which would wield negative effects on the situation in Syria, Yemen and the migrant crisis in Europe as well,” Zarif told the meeting.

De Mistura for his part, presented the meeting with a report of the latest efforts to realize the outcomes of Vienna round of Syrian talks to set the list of warring factions to participate in negotiations with Assad’s government; “since the groups are wide and diverse in their ethnic, religious, and political affiliations, considerable attempts have been waged in the process; in general, I appreciate the positive and constructive role of Iran in solving the Syrian crisis ,” he added.
