Jahangiri meets Algerian officials

TEHRAN, Dec. 16 (MNA) – Iran’s first vice-president has met with heads of Algerian Senate and National Assembly on Wednesday the capital city of Algiers.

Ishaq Jahangiri who is visiting North African Arab Republic of Algeria met with the Speaker of the Council of the Nation (Upper House of Parliament) Abdelkader Bensalah to discuss bilateral ties.

Jahangiri who is also leading a high-ranking Iranian delegation, was received with a warm welcome by Algerian officials, which the first vice-president appreciated.

He pointed to Algerian history of the battles of independence in the years of colonialism by Europeans, and praised the revolution which emancipated the country from under the serfdom of the colonialist powers.

Jahangiri highlighted historical relations of Iran and Algeria and common national interests; “there is a strong will in both sides to strengthen the ties,” he added.

He also met with Algerian People's National Assembly Speaker Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa. The Algerian official called for better and higher-level political ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran, and emphasized upon common views by both countries in many developments in the region.
