Trade agreement with Iran possible ‘the day after JCPOA implementation’

TEHRAN, Nov. 16 (MNA) – Iran’s senior nuclear negotiator has told a meeting of foreign ambassadors to Tehran signing trade agreements will be a reality the day after JCPOA implementation.

Abbas Araghchi presented the meeting with the latest developments in JCPOA implementation and Iran’s positions on the UN General Assembly’s resolution on Iran’s human rights record to be issued during UN Third Committee; he ensured the foreign ambassadors and envoys in Tehran that trade agreements would be signed between Iran and economic firms and banks of their fellow countries; “the negotiations to hit such an agreements could be kicked off even before the implementation of JCPOA; we welcome questions and points of ambiguities about the mechanism of starting a trade agreement negotiation in our JCPOA Follow-up Commission,” he told the meeting.

Araghchi also pointed to a resolution in the UN Third Committee about Iran’s human rights record, highlighting Iran’s good level of cooperation with human rights organizations and mechanisms including UN’s special rapporteurs and preparing the Second National Report on Universal Periodic Review, and denounced the double standards practiced by the major contributors to such resolutions in dealing with human rights issues; “the components of the resolution are fundamentally different than the realities of the human rights in Iran; we believe dialogue is the sole factor to promote human rights,” Araghchi said, calling countries to join Iran’s campaign in opposition of political motives in passing human rights resolutions.
