JCPOA implementation Iran-west relations milestone

TEHRAN, Oct. 18 (MNA) – Receiving German FM in Tehran on Sunday, secretary of Iran’s SNSC called JCPOA implementation a milestone in building trust between Iran and the west.

“The imminent implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is an important turning point in building and consolidating trust between Iran and its Western opponents,” stated Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, during his meeting with visiting German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Tehran today.

Insisting on fixed principles of Iran’s independent foreign policy, Shamkhani voiced hope that “constructive interactions in line with provision of mutual interests and observation of political, cultural, and economic red lines can open the way for opening a new chapter of all-out relations.”

“Friendly relations based on mutual respect will secure political and economic interests of both Iran and Germany,” asserted Shamkhani while pointing to the significant role of the Islamic Republic in the region and the status of Germany in Europe.

The Iranian official enumerated a host of other realms of potential cooperation between Tehran and Berlin, including intelligence exchange for the sake of addressing the crises in Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan, in addition to broadening economic and political ties.

“Extremism and terrorism are the biggest security threats of the world of today, and it necessitates a global will to counter them effectively and cut the feeding tubes, supports and provisions to terrorism,” affirmed the top Iranian security official.

He further lamented the tyrannical oppression of Palestinians by Israeli regime and Saudi regime’s illegitimate invasion to Yemen both resulting into merciless murder of defenseless women and innocent children, and called for the attention of the international community to the importance of dealing with state-sponsored terrorism as well as Takfiri terrorism, criticizing the world for keeping silent at the occurrence of the first one.

The German official, for his part, expressed his satisfaction with his travel to Tehran and described his meetings with Iranian officials constructive and beneficial.

Voicing hope for broadening Tehran-Berlin ties, the German diplomat hailed years of traditional relation between Iran and Germany.
