In a statement issued on Sunday, the Iraqi Defense Ministry announced that Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan will visit Baghdad to discuss the prospects of mutual cooperation in the field of defense with his Iraqi counterpart and other senior officials.
Defense Minister Dehghan’s visit to Iraq comes a few days after Iraqi President Fouad Massoum paid an official visit to Tehran and amid Iraqi media attention.
Last year, Brigadier General Dehghan and his visiting Iraqi counterpart Khalid al-Obeidi signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Tehran to broaden defense cooperation between the two Muslim neighboring states.
