Iran stuns Brazil, advances to FIVB semi-final

TEHRAN, July 18 (MNA) – Iran's national men volleyball squad has overpowered world many times champion Brazil, tonight Friday, in the Italian city of Florence to advance to semi-final of 2014 FIVB.

It was the second match of this round for the Iranian volley-ballers which they trounced Brazil, a world recognized champion 3-1.

In Friday game, Iranian champions won the first and second sets 25-21, 25-19. The third set went on while Brazilians experienced an extra hard time to be able to win Iran 25-23.

But the Iranian volley-ballers once again showed their superiority and won the fourth set 28-26 to make it third time in 2014 to rout world known winner Brazil.

Iran's Amir Ghafour was the best scorer of this game who also scored the last point for Iran to defeat Brazil tonight.  

Brazil is a nine-time winner of the world competitions who will host the 2016 Olympics. After Brazil, Italy has been crowned eight times in the World League’s previous editions.

Iran national men volleyball team had already secured its place to qualify into the final round from Pool A gaining the second place after Italy, followed by Brazil and Poland.

In the opening game of this round Iran was defeated while Russia struggled to win the Persian champions after five sets (25-17, 18-25, 21-25, 37-35, and 15-8).

Iran delighted by this historic win, advanced to the semi-final of FIVB – Fédération Internationale de Volleyball – Volleyball World League.
