TEHRAN, Dec. 01 (MNA) – The Iranian Foreign Minister held a meeting with the Syrian President Bashar Assad in Damascus on Sunday afternoon, during which he conveyed the message of Iran's support for Syria to him.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting with President Bashar Assad, Abbas Araghchi said that "I had a useful, frank, and friendly meeting with the Syrian President."

"The current situation in the region and Syria was discussed," he also said, adding that "It is natural that the conditions are difficult, but the courage and spirit of the Syrian President were admirable."

"Terrorist groups think that there is new era and they can carry out activities, but they will be confronted," the top Iranian diplomat told reporters.

"The details of the support that should be provided to Syria were discussed," he added.

"I conveyed the message of the Islamic Republic of Iran's support and backing for the country and people of Syria, and for Bashar al-Assad personally, to the Syrian President."

"We reached good understandings in this meeting," he added.

According to the Syrian media, the Syrian president had said in the meeting with the Iranian foreign minister that "Syria will continue to fight terrorist organizations with all its might."

"Defeating terrorism serves the security of the entire region," Assad said.

The Iranian Foreign Minister arrived in the Syrian capital of Damascus on Sunday afternoon. 

It was yesterday that Iranian and Turkish foreign ministries said that the top Iranian diplomat would travel to Syria on Sunday, followed by his trip to Turkey on Monday.
