TEHRAN, Apr. 15 (MNA) – Issuing a statement after Iran's retaliatory attack against Israel, the country's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) said that the attack was the minimum necessary punitive action against the Zionist regime.

The reason for the IRGC's massive missile and drone attack on the occupied territories was the Zionist regime's crossing of red lines, the SNSC said, adding that the military measure taken by Iran was based on Article 2 of the United Nations Charter.

In order to ensure its national interests and national security, Iran has taken the minimum necessary punitive action against the aggressor Zionist regime based on Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, it added.

Iran solely targeted the Israeli military bases during the operation and currently, there is no military action against Israel on the country's agenda, according to the statement.

If the Zionist regime continues its evil actions against Iran with any means and at any level, it will receive a response 10 times fiercer, it concluded.

In response to the Israeli terrorist attack on Iran's consulate building in Syria on April 1, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps attacked targets in occupied Palestine with dozens of drones and missiles early on Sunday.

The Israeli regime attacked Iran's consulate in the Syrian capital of Damascus on April 1. The Israeli aggression led to the destruction of the entire building and the martyrdom and injury of the entire people inside it.

Seven of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) military advisors were martyred following the Israeli attack on Iran's consulate in Damascus.
