The wall collapsed Friday on people who were part of a pre-wedding procession at Madapur Samaspur in Ghosi town of Mau district, about 303 km east of Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh.

According to officials, the injured were pulled out of the debris and removed to local hospitals.

The incident which was captured on camera shows a wall collapsing on a group of women walking behind drum beaters through a narrow street. Following it, a cloud of dust quickly enveloped the street triggering panic.

Officials said immediately after receiving the information about the wall collapse, rescuers from the disaster response force and police teams were rushed to the spot along with earthmovers to remove the debris and trace the people under it.

Police have registered a case and ordered an investigation to ascertain the cause of the incident.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced 2,397 U.S. dollars in compensation to each family that lost a member and 599 dollars to each injured in the incident.
