TEHRAN, Dec. 03 (MNA) – Iran’s Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri arrived in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Saturday night for a three-day visit to the Arab country.

Bagheri has called Iraq an important neighbor of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which has a key position, saying that the two countries enjoy friendly ties.

Bagheri is in Baghdad upon an invitation by his Iraqi counterpart and is accompanied by a number of high-ranking military and political officials.

During his trip, General Bagheri is set to meet with a number of senior Iraqi officials, including the country’s prime minister and president.

Upon arrival in the Iraqi capital, the commander and his accompanying delegation visited the site of a US drone attack near Baghdad’s airport, which resulted in the martyrdom of Iran’s top commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, and Iraqi commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in January 2020. Bagheri and his delegation paid tribute to the martyred commanders.
