TEHRAN, Oct. 02 (MNA) – Iranian border police commander Brigadier General Ahmad Ali Goudarzi says that 4 vessels smuggling illicit drugs were confiscated in the Sea of Oman.

The Iranian border guards also dismantled two drug smuggling bands that were trying to transfer narcotics into the country, he said.

Following the clashes between the border guards and criminals, 17 people were detained, and 6 tons of narcotics, as well as some ammunition and guns, were seized from the smugglers.

The confiscated narcotics included 5.2 tons of hashish, 135 kg of crystal, 46 kg of heroin, and 612 kg of opium.

Iran is at the forefront of the fight against drug trafficking and thousands of Iranian forces have been so far martyred to protect the world from the danger of drugs.

Despite high economic and human costs, the Islamic Republic has been actively fighting drug trafficking over the past decades.
