TEHRAN, Dec. 01 (MNA) – Iranian athletes snatched two gold medals in 2018 World Military Taekwondo Championships, underway in Rio de Janeiro.

In men’s -54kg category, Hamid Sadri gained a commanding 13-0 victory over his Saudi rival Yahya Abdulelah in the final contest and collected the gold medal. China’s Junren Ye and Brazil’s Souza Paulo grabbed the bronze medals of this category.

Earlier and in men’s -58kg category, Mohammad Kazemi earned the first gold medal of Iran in the event by defeating China’s Yushuai Liang in the final bout. Rudnik Aleksei of Russia and Molom Tumembayar of Mongolia claimed bronze medals of this category.

The 24th edition of World Military Taekwondo Championships kicked off on November 29 in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. Being included in the International Military Sports Council (CISM) calendar, coordinated by the Ministries of Defense and Sports of Brazil and organized by Navy of Brazil (MB), the event will go through December 3 with participation of some 340 military athletes from 25 countries such as Germany, Bulgaria, Canada, China, United States, Iran, Italy and Russia.
