TEHRAN, Nov. 11 (MNA) – Iranian men’s kumite team won the world trophy on Sunday after defeating Turkey in the final match at World Senior Karate Championships.

On Sunday, the Iranian team edged past Turkey 3-2 in the final contest and bagged the prestigious gold medal of the event. Japan and Italy won two bronze medals at this category.

Also, in men’s team kata category, the Iranian side sntached a bronze medal by gaining a 3-2 victory over Turkey. The gold medal went to Japan which had beat Spain 5-0 in the final. Italy was the other bronze winner of this category.

In the medal table of the event, Iran finished runner-up with two gold, one silver, and four bronze medals. Japan stood first and France claimed the third place. This is the first time in the past 44 years that Iran has achieved this ranking in World Karate Championships.

The 24th edition of World Senior Championships kicked off in Madrid, Spain on November 6 and wrapped up today. More than 1100 practitioners from 140 different countries participated in the event.
