TEHRAN, Oct. 24 (MNA) – Ali Chegini has been appointed as Iran’s new ambassador to India by the suggestion of Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and approval by President Hassan Rouhani.

Chegini was named as Iran’s new ambassador to New Delhi, replacing former ambassador Gholamreza Ansari who was appointed as the Deputy for Economic Affairs at the Foreign Ministry back in February.

The diplomat has served as Iranian Foreign Ministry's Director-General for Consular Affairs for many years.

He had previously served as the Iranian ambassador to Havana, Cuba.
