“Iran and North Korea have shared common views on many critical issues at the international level and supported one another,” Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said in a meeting with visiting North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho in Tehran on Wednesday.
Iran wishes for the full establishment of peace and security in the Korean Peninsula, said Rouhani, voicing Iran’s resolve to expand international relations and cooperation with the world, including North Korea.
“In the current situation, countries on friendly terms with one another need to stand together by developing relations and cooperation in international communities,” stressed Rouhani.
The Iranian president further censured US unilateral pullout from the nuclear deal, saying Washington is known as an unreliable country in the world, which is not committed to any of its obligations.
The North Korean diplomat, for his part, noted the friendly and close ties between Tehran and Pyongyang, adding “North Korea’s strategic policy is to expand relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran and confront unilateralism.”
He described the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal and the attempts to reinstate sanctions against Iran as a wrong measure which runs counter to international rules and regulations.
He then presented Rouhani with a report on North Korea’s talks with US in Singapore, as well as the recent developments in the Korean Peninsula.
