“Tehran-Islamabad cooperation will increase to expand regional security,” said the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran Major General Mohammad Bagheri on Monday in Islamabad.
The Iranian senior military commander who arrived in Islamabad on Sunday afternoon is vesting Pakistani capital city accepting the invitation extended by General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army.
“US is the number one threat to the region and is after creating insecurity in the region,” he said recounting the importance of his visit to Islamabad and highlighting the role of regional countries in stabilizing peace and security in the Middle East.
“Iran and Pakistan are responsible to expand bilateral friendly relations and cooperation at the current stage of events and to plan and practice measures for realizing security and serenity in the region,” he underlined.
“This country, with more than 200 million Muslims, is interested in the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Iran attaches great importance to expanding ties with Pakistan,” said Major General Bagheri after describing Pakistan as one of most important neighboring countries of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
“It is necessary to develop these communications due to characteristics of the current situation of the South West Asia and developments in the region,” said the Iranian military official after referring to the good relations of Iran and Pakistan in the past and the importance of Pakistan in the foreign relations and policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The visiting Iranian delegation was welcomed by Iranian ambassador to Islamabad and a host of Pakistani military officials, upon arrival in Islamabad.
This visit is in response to General Bajwa’s visit to Tehran back in November 2017, and the two sides are aiming to assess the implementation process of the agreement signed in Tehran.
Major General Mohammad Bagheri is also expected to discuss ways to increase bilateral cooperation in areas of military and security. Cooperation to increase security along the shared line of Iran-Pakistan borders is another issue to be discussed in meetings in Islamabad.
