TEHRAN, Jun. 23 (MNA) – Iran has proposed to UN Office for Outer Space Affairs to prioritize climate change studies by using spatial technology, during the Unispace+50 showcase in Vienna.

The Unispace+50 showcase in Vienna, hosted by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs, was held to commemorate the 50-year anniversary of the organization’s first conference on the exploration and peaceful use of outer space.

Held on 20-21 June, it also aimed to gather and consider the future course of global space cooperation for the benefit of humankind.

Speaking at the event, the head of Iranian Space Agency (ISA) Morteza Barari, presented Iran’s proposal on “climate change studies by using spatial technology” to be considered as one of the educational priorities of the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs.

Barari stressed that any mechanism for spatial activities should be in line with advancing technology and incorporate the concerns and interests of all countries without any discrimination.

He also highlighted the importance and fundamental role of small satellites in the advancement of peaceful spatial activities of developing countries, stressing that no restriction should be imposed on these countries for designing, constructing, and launching small satellites.

Barari further proposed the establishment of a regional dust monitoring and measuring system with the help and support of the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs.
