TEHRAN, Jun. 19 (MNA) – The domestically-produced 1,300-horsepower diesel engine was unveiled on the sidelines of railway transport exhibition in Tehran today.

According to the Public Relations Department of the Iranian Defense Ministry, the production line of domestically-produced 1,300-horsepower diesel engine was inaugurated on the sidelines of ‘the International Railway Transport Exhibition’ in Tehran this morning.

Iranian different officials including Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami, ministers of industry, and road and urban development, as well as Sorena Sattari, the Iranian Vice-President for Science and Technology were present in the opening ceremony of the engine production line.

Brigadier General Amir Hatami said in the ceremony that the domestically-produced diesel engine has widespread uses in rail, road, marine and oil transport as well as energy and defense industries, expressed his appreciation to all those who had worked hard on the project.

The Minister of Road and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi also said in the ceremony that his ministry has bought 10 national engines, expressing hope that this new achievement paves the way for more industrial development in the country.

Furthermore, Sorena Sattari, the Iranian Vice-President for Science and Technology congratulated the Iranian scientific community on the achievement, saying that they in the president’s office had been pursuing the stages of the project years.

Sattari said that the science and technology community of the country is surely happy with this great achievement, expressing his hope that other the generations of this engine will be developed soon.

According to Sattari, the domestically-produced diesel engine, which is manufactured using domestically-produced parts, is used in rail, power and marine sectors, and work on it started in 2014, adding that the achievement indicates industrial independence.

He added that one megawatt type of the engine is still being produced, hoping that the production of 5 and 6 megawatts engines in the country will start soon.
