“Either what we want from the JCPOA continues to be met by a non-American party, or if we see that our expectations have not been met, we will consider our own path and plans,” President Rouhani said on Monday at the meeting of Administrative Council, Development and Elite of Razavi Khorasan province.
He went on to add, “if the US goal is to take away our independence and influence in the region, we will stand firm against it; but if their goal is to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, they should know that we will never seek nuclear weapons due to Islam’s principles and orders of our leaders.”
“The main objective of American governments throughout the years has been to limit Iran’s independence, power and influence in the region,” the president added.
“The US, from the very start, has been trying to curb Iran’s power, and today, whether they stay in the JCPOA or pull out, they are still after the same thing,” he said.
“Today, it is only the Americans who seek to destroy the nuclear deal,” Rouhani said. “If the US takes a measure now, it will be considered as merely a US measure, not a move that the UN Security Council would want to support as it did in the past.”
