TEHRAN, Apr. 21 (MNA) – Navy Commander Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi said that Iranian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) will be held on Monday April 23 in Tehran.

Speaking in a press briefing, he said, “this prestigious Symposium will be held in Tehran’s Espinas Hotel on Monday and will run up to April 25.”

Indian Ocean Naval Symposium has 23 permanent members with nine observers, he said, adding, “strategic navy of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army is a permanent member of the Symposium.”

Indian Ocean Naval Commanders Symposium is the most prestigious military symposium in the history of the Islamic Republic of Iran and it is expected that about 35 high-ranking military delegations from various countries in the world will travel to Tehran to attend this important event.

He pointed to the salient specifications of Indian Ocean and added, “Islamic Republic of Iran and the Persian Gulf are located in West Asia’s strategic regional hub, so that about 17 million oil barrels are exported from this region per day.”

He went on to say that UK and other countries have left no stone unturned and tried to attain strategic region in West Asia but their attempts have doomed to failure.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Khanzadi said that Sahand Destroyer will be put into operation in the very near future and reiterated, “currently, completion of some of defensive systems of the destroyer is underway which will be launched soon.”

Sahand Destroyer will be added to country’s army naval fleet and Jamaran Destroyer as well, he opined.

The Indian Ocean Naval Symposium are a series of biennial meetings among the littoral states of the Indian Ocean region. It provides a forum to increase maritime security cooperation, providing a forum for discussion of regional maritime issues and promote friendly relationships among the member nations, Navy Commander Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi concluded.
