TEHRAN, Dec. 05 (MNA) – Iranian weightlifter Ali Hashemi has been brilliant to clinch 2 gold medals of the 105kg category at the 2017 IWF World Weightlifting Championships underway in the US.

Ali Hashemi and Alireza Soleimani represented Iran in the 105-kilogram weight group of the international event in Anaheim of the US. Eleven other weightlifters were present in the same category coming from the US, South Korea, Latvia, Japan, Bulgaria, Austria, Poland, Uzbekistan and Iraq.

Soleimani landed seventh overall after lifting a total of 392 kilograms. He hoisted 177kg in snatch and 223kg in clean and jerk.

Meanwhile, Ali Hashemi stood on top of the podium with a record of 404 kilograms for the combined total on Tuesday morning.

The Iranian powerhouse successfully lifted 183 kilograms to come first in the snatch before hoisting 221 kilograms in the clean and jerk.

In the same category, Arturs Plesnieks of Latvia landed second overall with a total of 402 kilograms while Uzbekistan’s Ivan Efremov finished in the third place with a record of 399 kilograms.

The World Weightlifting Championships is an event organised by International Weightlifting Federation (IWF). The 2017 edition is being held in Anaheim, the US from 28 November to 5 December 2017.
